The last day they’ll share a bed.
Mercury looks over, lovingly. The sheets are already pushed back. Jupiter has always been an early riser.
Jupiter sits by the window overlooking the garden, journaling. Since spending the past year in an Air sign, Gemini, she has taken up a morning pages habit. It was the only way to manage all the thoughts constantly whirling in her head, an endless cacophony. She sighs, letting the sun warm her face.
Tomorrow, she’ll move into Cancer, the place she truly belongs.
She feels a tingle of excitement deep within. Home. She’s going home.
She feels arms wrapped around her; Mercury plants a kiss on her forehead. She smiles, turning, sadness in her eyes. She’s going to miss sharing this space with him.
Their love is an unlikely one; born from proximity, from being in his domain. He will go ahead of her, first, into Cancer; he’s always hated the water. She’ll stay there for a year while he flits on ahead, always the speedier one.
“Good morning, my darling,” he smiles, eyes full of love. It’s always hard saying goodbye. “What are you writing?”
“I have a message for you,” Jupiter smiles, eyes glinting imperceptibly. She knows those are his favorite words. She leans in close, whispering…
Jupiter enters Cancer tomorrow, ending her stay in Gemini.
This is my first time writing about the planets like they are characters. Of course, planets aren’t gendered, and they express themselves differently depending on what sign and house they are in.
But their core personalities never change, so this story is based on that.
Mercury is our messenger planet, and before Jupiter enters her favorite place on Earth, she leaves him a message … before spending the next year in Cancer. 🦀
