what do you hope to feel?💧
this New Moon in Cancer asks us to dive deep and clarify what we value – ahead of the nodal shift to Aries-Libra 🤸♀️
Hi, friends.
I’m sitting opposite Shawn in a book cafe, Taylor Swift blaring overhead, using his laptop to make the final edits on this piece because I forgot to bring my own out. Yes, it’s been that kind of week. It’s been that kind of month, if I’m being honest.
Pluto, Lord of the Underworld, has been squaring the nodes — our karmic points of destiny – for the past few weeks. In my (already tiny) circle of friends, there were 3 deaths in our respective families. 🤍
I’ve been swimming through my own grief over losing my beloved grandmother, but more than that, I’ve been consumed with the idea of FIGURING THIS SH*T OUT — understanding the bigger forces at play, so I can share it with y’all.
What I’m realizing, especially with the upcoming sh*t-show we’re calling “July’s astrology”, is there IS no understanding. There is only acceptance, and perhaps if we’re lucky, peace.
Let’s begin.
Author’s Note: This post is different from my usual writing — it’s a meaty dive into the upcoming astrology of July. Let me know if this is your cup of tea! 🍵 Poll at the end for paid subs. ✷ Love ya!
The upcoming New Moon in Cancer promises to be a doozy. We have El Sol and La Luna in Cancer, sitting opposite Pluto in Capricorn — at worst, this is a power struggle between legacy and family, duty and heart; at best, this is an opportunity to use Pluto’s transformational qualities to unearth a sticky emotional issue we haven’t had the guts to face. (More on this later.)
And then there’s that ongoing square between Pluto and the Nodes, which are juuuust about to shift into Aries–Libra . . .
TL;DR: it’s all one big Cardinal family feud. 🥵
🪐 Quick astro facts:
The nodes are karmic points of destiny in the sky. They change signs every ~18 months, and shape the collective karma we’re navigating as a society.
In general, our job is to try and lean more into the energy of the North Node (like a “north star”), to heal the shadow side of the South Node.
Two quick examples:
From 2020 to 2022, the North Node was in Gemini and the South Node in Sag. What happened in 2020? Covid. International travel (Sag) screeched to a halt. We had to learn how to thrive in our local neighborhoods (Gemini).
From 2022 to now, the North Node was in Taurus and the South Node in Scorpio. We’ve been dealing with the axis of resources and power. Thus began the slow living revolution — coming back home to our bodies & the Earth (Taurus), to combat the growing preoccupation with power, status, and money (Scorpio).
From 18 July 2023 until January 2025, the nodes will shift to Aries-Libra. This is a shift back to Fire and Air. This is the dance between “me” and “we”; passionate individuality vs. hard-won harmony. From resources, the focus shifts to relationships — our relationship to others, and ourselves. 💘
When the New Moon culminates on July 17, the nodes will be at the very last degree of Taurus-Scorpio: 0 degrees. This is known as a critical degree in Astrology. Imagine a countdown timer running down to the final milliseconds — that’s the kind of urgency we are collectively feeling right now. It’s a time where all the sh*t from the past 18 months is now floating up to the surface: to be dealt with, transmuted, or simply bade goodbye to.
The South Node in Scorpio deals with the hidden underbelly of Life; the part that no one wants to touch, let alone talk about — shame, taboo, death. On the last day of my grandmother’s funeral, I found out my best friend lost her uncle at 3 AM. Shawn & I drove 3+ hours to be with her.
Before the South Node bids us farewell, she left a gift in the form of grief for us to grow through. 🤍
She knows that there is no greater catalyst for Transformation than the searing permanence of Death.
It is only through Loss, that we learn what it’s most important in Life.
